When Miley told Rolling Stone her Wrecking Ball video was inspired by Sinead O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2 U, Sinead was not flattered. She wrote an open letter warning Cyrus that the music industry would “prostitute her for all she was worth” and that nothing but harm would come from allowing herself to be exploited. Miley’s response was a dismissive tweet pointing out she was too busy hosting SNL to write a proper reply. Years later, after Sinead’s death in 2023, Miley admitted she carried guilt about the feud and that she had not understood the extent of Sinead’s mental health struggles at the time. Too little, too late, but at least she said it.
