Sophie Mudd started posting photos on Instagram in 2013 at 15 years old with no particular plan beyond seeing what would happen. What happened was two million followers and a modelling career that eventually landed her brand deals with Nike among others. The pivot toward actual Hollywood came in 2023 when she made a guest appearance in The Weeknd’s controversial HBO series The Idol, which was one of the most talked-about and widely criticised shows of that year. The series was accused of being gratuitous and poorly written by almost every major critic, which paradoxically made everyone watch it. Being attached to that particular project was either terrible timing or very smart positioning depending on how you look at it.
